There is No Dilemma | David Curtis’ POTOMAC Experience | Selling a Pest Control Business, Anticimex
One, two, three, ready, rock paper scissors. One two three go! See how I won instantly yeah three out of three that’s three out of three no I didn’t say three items I make the rules and I, and I, I’m the captain three go come on ready one two three go even, done. One two three go ah! I don’t know what kind of scissors those were ah!
I was listening to this radio station in Long Island and the guy, who’s a DJ, he’s funny. He goes when I wake up, the only problem I want to have, is this a gin day, or a vodka day.
Hi, my name is David Curtis, my wife Jeanette. Recently sold our pest control company in Connecticut, Aavon Pest Control, just about a year ago. We’re down in the Coast Florida, retired, and it is cocktail hour, and cheers to you.
This guy who owned Aavon started it in 46, wanted to retire to Florida, I don’t know what it is of Florida, and he wanted a partner so my dad bought in. And I remember stuffing envelopes on the couch for bills, and he would send me out to do some pricing, when I was more or less like 18 out of high school. Forty three years maybe of doing it, great stuff!
My dad goes, hey, you got to go to Port Chester somebody saw a roach on their desk so obviously I have to drive down there well guess whose desk, had the cockroach on, right. That’s how we met, we met over a cockroach. We owe our whole this – to cockroach, energy kids. It’s kind of fun.
A couple years ago I was talking to my friend John, and I go, John, I’ll be 60. I said yeah, let’s say technically, I have 15 20 years I’ve really hopefully active stuff. We can fish, we can do all these things. Being healthy I go, how do I want to spend my 20 years after that oh that’s gratis that you can move around go show whatever it is but I go for the 20 I said I don’t think I want 20 of still working and I said, you know what I, I’m gonna take a chance. I’m gonna take a chance and see what I can do with this.
Now is the time, in that, but you know it’s scary. My buddy said hey it takes a set of balls to basically drop what you know, and move on. It was the right race, and we picked the right horse, oh yeah, I called a buddy of mine, I go hey, I’m going to call a certain company. And I go, I’m not sure who does it he goes oh no, he goes the only company you’ll want to call is Potomac. He goes here’s his info call Paul. Well that was super easy, nice guy, You can tell how smart he is, uh almost as smart as me right. So God bless him. It was a beautiful relationship.
Franco was awesome. He was great all along there’s no complaints best choice I made time that we spent with him was always funny, fun, upbeat, there was joking, there was laughter, there was guidance. Um, he’s knowledgeable, I mean it was one of those things where this is something we’ve never done before and he, he made it easy.
Hey, kind of the world’s our oyster right now, so we get up early, you know there is no dilemma. You’re looking at do you want to hit some tennis balls today? Do you want to hit golf balls today? You want to play nine holes today? Do you want to do the kayak? Like you’re starting to look outside your little box, and yeah, your routine changes and it’s relaxed, and you own it. And yeah, absolutely. You’re excited to get up in the morning because you’re not going, did the truck get fixed, we got to make sure the taxes are paid. We’ve been able to flip that switch off to really focusing more on kind of like what we would like to do, but also just growing our brains a little bit.
We’ll have time that we can spend with our new grandchild. A lot of time that we could spend with our son. He was in the military for a long time, so we didn’t get to see him. So now we get to make up for I guess, lost time. Our daughter comes from Connecticut. She’ll come down every couple of months she’ll come hang out. It’s nice to be able to do that and to be able to entertain somebody fully. You can focus on that that’s been a nice little blessing a little plus.
Hey Franco cheers! Paul, thank you for everything. God bless you guys, cheers, cheers.
